The Virgin Islands are on the top of most everyone’s travel wish list – a dream destination whether for vacation or residence. Crystal-clear-blue Caribbean Sea, long golden beaches and green lush mountainous islands jutting skyward promise much to see and do. The Islands are a natural playground and the caring people, the laid-back loving vibe, delicious foods and drinks, great entertainment, and the un-spoiled natural beauty are unmatched. Many people who visit The Virgin Islands find a way to return or stay and most want to.

Tortola is the main island in the territory most frequented by visitor and resident. Nevertheless, sometimes we all just want to escape somewhere else spectacular. I highly recommend going to the other islands. Adventures await a ferry, barge, boat, water taxi or charter away. From East, West, North and South: Day Trips are easily taken to Jost Van Dyke; Virgin Gorda, Anegada, Cooper and many other smaller islands and anchorages. Sandy Spit is my favorite!

Jost Van Dyke is a great adventure and takes under ½ an hour to get to. Jost Van Dyke is a perfect get away whether you want to learn something new like Scuba Diving at Jost Van Dyke Scuba; get pampered with massage while floating at the Ocean Spa BVI or if you want to do nothing at all but relax. If you enjoy walking, you can – to most everywhere. There are beach bars along the south side of the island. People and boats from all over the planet circle back and gather in masse every year for the territories’ biggest Annual New Year’s Party at world famous “Foxy’s!”

Virgin Gorda is an extremely popular place – they boast the renowned “Baths”; “Copper Mine”; their own unique green stone and many excellent restaurants and resorts. There is a ferry or a barge you can drive your own vehicle onto.

Anegada Island is the furthest Virgin Island in the Territory. Approximately two hours sail from Tortola and about fifteen miles north of Virgin Gorda – there is much to see, do and explore on Anegada Island. More than one day on Anegada is highly recommended. Bring enough money with you. There are no ATMs and not every business will have card machines on Anegada. If you have any specific needs bring them with you. If you can carry a cooler – do it. People come from all over the territory and world to Anegada most notably late November for the Annual Anegada Lobster Fest.

Anegada may be explored on foot, or by taxi but I enjoy renting a Moke and exploring on my own. Careful of the livestock. Animals roam and graze about. Favorite place to stay is The Big Bamboo. Best cup of coffee is at Anegada Beach Club. Yes, they have espresso and cappuccino! My favorite beach bar on Anegada is Flash of Beauty on the “Real Loblolly Bay.”

I most enjoy doing yoga on the beach of each spectacular Virgin Island. My postures are strongest on Anegada because of the coral base foundation below the sand.
